March 20th
The people who had gathered at the Towers this morning to see the solar eclipse were unlucky as the murk and cloud continued to blow in off the sea all morning.
I walked from Reculver to Coldharbour and then inland and saw 422 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 1 Wheatear, 11 Oystercatchers, 73 Cormorants, 2 Mute Swans, 18 Redshank, 2 Little Egrets, 4 Grey Plovers, 3 Shelduck, 1 Turnstone, 5 Dunlin, 2 Ringed Plovers, 1 male Snow Bunting moving W along the beach, 21 Linnets, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Grey Wagtail, 8 Gadwall, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Coot, 10 Tufted Duck and 1 singing Chiffchaff.
Anne found a freshly dead Harbour Porpoise on the beach below the cliffs at Bishopstone.
