April 10th

It was a beautiful spring morning as I walked from Chamber's Wall to the Wantsum outflow and I saw 10 Mute Swans, 7 Goldfinches, 2 Blackcaps, 4 Willow Warblers, 2 Chiffchaffs, 5 Cetti's Warblers, 5 Coot, 1 Green Woodpecker, 10 Linnets, 2 Mallard, 1 Sedge Warbler singing beside the Wantsum (142nd), 6 Redshank, 9 Turnstone, 4 Oystercatchers, 10 Meadow Pipits, 19 Corn Buntings, 2 Ringed Plovers, 1 Sparrowhawk and 1 Kestrel.

Derek Smith was also out between 0730 and 1100 and walked from Shuart, along the embankment to Coldharbour and back via Plumpudding. He counted 2 Lapwings, 2 Little Grebes, 1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Marsh Harriers, 5 Jays, 7 Magpies E, 1 Brambling, 12 Cetti's Warblers, 8 Blackcaps, 1 Sedge Warbler at the Swans Neck, 5 Willow Warblers, 14 Chiffchaffs and 1 Corn Bunting.

A walk at Reculver this afternoon produced 3 Chiffchaffs, 1 Common Buzzard, 2 Jays, 2 Blackcaps, 3 Cetti's Warblers, 5 Great Crested Grebes, 2 Willow Warblers, 5 Mallard, 2 Coot, 1 Green Sandpiper, 2 Shelduck and 4 Tufted Duck.

This afternoon Alex and Julian Perry decided to try for the first time to use a pheromone lure for Emperor Moth in their garden at Bishopstone and managed to attract a beautiful male after a short while.
