August 10th
Although the wind increased considerably during our walk along the seawall the worst of the rain did not arrive until after we had returned to our car. We managed to see 2 Mute Swans, 100 Mallard, 8 Teal, 7 Cormorants, 1 Fulmar, 8 Little Egrets, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Peregrine, 7 Oystercatchers, 3 Common Sandpipers, 2 Green Sandpipers, 2 Redshank, 1 Whimbrel, 2 Curlews, 1 juvenile Yellow-legged Gull W (162), 1 adult Mediterranean Gull, 1 Black Tern E (161), 1 Common Tern, 1 Sandwich Tern, 2 Turtle Doves, 1 Little Owl, 1 Kingfisher, 18 Yellow Wagtails, 5 Pied Wagtails, 2 Wheatears, 200 Starlings and 33 Linnets.
There is a lot of luck in birdwatching. This afternoon we happened to arrive at Reculver car park just as the rain cleared and almost the first bird we saw was an adult Long-tailed Skua (163) flying W and giving good views in the sunshine. The only other birds we saw in 40 minutes was a Fulmar and 10 Swifts flying in off the sea.
