March 28th
There was dense fog at Reculver when we arrived at 0800 but as we walked up to Coldharbour it slowly thinned out so that by 0930 it was relatively clear. We heard and saw 1 Redwing, 7 Chiffchaffs, 1 Black Redstart, 11 Linnets, 10 Redshank, 2 Pied Wagtails, 6 Shelduck, 2 Ringed Plovers, 28 Mallard, 2 Cetti's Warblers, 3 Little Egrets, 1 Rock Pipit, 16 Oystercatchers, 12 Sanderling, 1 Golden Plover, 1 Curlew, 1 Grey Plover, 1 Short-eared Owl, 2 Dunlin, 6 Sand Martins (129th) at the colony, 5 Tufted Duck, 1 Coot, 1 Kestrel and 2 Green Woodpeckers.
Derek Smith was out between 1100 and 1330 walked from Shuart and along the embankment to Coldharbour and Plumpudding. Birds he saw included 2 Marsh Harriers, 4 Common Buzzards, 1 Peregrine, 1 Little Gull W (130th), 36 Redshank, 3 pairs of Lapwings, 12 Chiffchaffs and 5 Cetti's Warblers.
This afternoon as we arrived home following a visit to Grove Ferry we found 2 Red Kites flying W over our house and causing pandemonium amongst the local Herring Gulls.

Black Redstart

As anyone who has been to Reculver during the last week will know the Environment Agency have been doing coastal protection work and moving vast amounts of shingle about on the beach. In the process they have unearthed a section of one of Neville Barnes-Wallis's Dambuster bouncing bombs that were tested here in May 1943.
