September 29th

We arrived at Reculver later than usual after taking the car in for an MOT and service. It was a beautiful, calm and sunny Morning as we walked up to Coldharbour and back again before having a look at Reculver bushes. Birds we saw included 5 Grey Herons, 27 Goldfinches, 2 Oystercatchers, 5 Redshank, 2 Stonechats, 23 Ringed Plovers, 22 Meadow Pipits, 21 Skylarks W, 1 Snipe, 2 Cetti's Warblers, 19 Reed Buntings, 5 Linnets, 19 Swallows W, 61 Mallard, 2 Little Egrets, 1 Corn Bunting, 1 Grey Plover, 1 Curlew, 19 Golden Plover, 2 Dunlin, 4 Sandwich Terns E, 18 Carrion Crows on the beach, 1 Kestrel, 5 Chiffchaffs and 1 Reed Warbler.

Dave Smith was out much earlier than us and walked from Shuart to Plumpudding and along the railway embankment. He counted 1 Lapwing, 2 Sandwich Terns, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Common Buzzards, 1 Short-eared Owl, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Kestrel, 2 Reed Warblers, 7 Swallows, 22 Chiffchaffs, 14 Blackcaps, 1 Firecrest, 2 Grey Wagtails, 22 Meadow Pipits, 4 Chaffinches, 3 Song Thrushes, 4 Siskins and 8 Corn Buntings.
