December 31st
The final morning of 2015 was bright and breezy as we walked from Chamber's Wall to Coldharbour and then along the seawall. We saw 1 Kestrel, 34 Redwings, 16 Blackbirds, 18 Fieldfares, 8 Goldfinches, 11 Redshank, 2 Little Grebes, 1 Little Egret, 3 Curlews, 397 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 38 Oystercatchers, 4 Shelduck, 17 Mallard, 2 Grey Plovers, 1 Teal, 1 Stonechat, 35 Carrion Crows and 2 Sanderling.
A relatively low total of 200 species was seen in the Reculver recording area this year, better than last year but lower than the preceding nine years.

December 30th
On a blustery morning we walked inland from Reculver and saw 1 Common Buzzard, 12 Long-tailed Tits, 18 Gadwall, 1 Pochard, 2 Mallard, 6 Coot, 5 Tufted Duck, 1 Goldcrest, 2 Chiffchaffs, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Water Rail, 1 Siskin, 2 Jays, 2 Mistle Thrushes and 6 Lapwings.
At Minnis Bay the tide was miles out and there was little to see except for 34 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 400 Cormorants on the distant sandbanks where there were also at least 60 mainly Grey Seals.
Matt spent a short time at the Towers this morning and saw 6 Gannets and 1 Great Skua.

On another pleasant morning we walked from Reculver to Coldharbour with Marc Heath. We saw 332 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 1 Pied Wagtail, 1 Gannet E, 11 Mute Swans, 2 Little Egrets, 18 Redshank, 35 Linnets, 32 Oystercatchers, 3 Ringed Plovers, 12 Mallard, 5 Shelduck, 1 Curlew, 1 Peregrine, 1 Grey Plover, 1 Short-eared Owl, 1 Kingfisher and 1 Marsh Harrier.

On a pleasant, sunny morning we walked around the Shuart area and along the railway embankment and recorded 2 Mistle Thrushes, 3 Chiffchaffs, 10 Goldcrests, 4 Ring-necked Parakeets, 5 singing Cetti's Warblers, 6 Long-tailed Tits, 4 Common Buzzards, 1 Redwing, 1 Fieldfare, 32 Mute Swans, 78 Greylag Geese, 1 Marsh Harrier, 380 Cormorants flying out to sea, 2 Bearded Tits, 1 Grey Heron, 16 Goldfinches, 2 Siskins, 3 Lesser Redpolls, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Yellowhammer and 1 Kestrel.

The unseasonal weather continues as this morning we walked inland at Reculver. We managed to see 3 Mistle Thrushes, 1 Green Woodpecker, 6 Chiffchaffs, 3 Gadwall, 4 Tufted Ducks, 1 Goldcrest, 5 Coot, 1 Pochard, 2 Mute Swans, 2 Fieldfares, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Jay, 4 Long-tailed Tits, 2 Redwings, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 200 Dark-bellied Brent Geese and 1 Little Egret.

December 26th
On yet another mild but blustery morning we walked around the Shuart area and saw 5 Ring-necked Parakeets, 2 Chiffchaffs, 6 Goldcrests, 6 Mistle Thrushes, 16 Chaffinches, 7 Mute Swans, 12 Goldfinches, 3 Lesser Redpolls, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Marsh Harrier, 18 Blackbirds and 1 Fieldfare.
Later all we saw at Minnis Bay were 3 adult Gannets flying W close inshore. In addition Terry Wilson had a Peregrine chasing the waders along the shore.

This morning I managed a quick early morning walk at Reculver and saw 1 Green Woodpecker, 4 Mute Swans, 1 Chiffchaff, 68 Gadwall, 8 Tufted Duck, 5 Coot, 12 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 1 Little Grebe, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Green Sandpiper, 2 Mallard, 1 Mistle Thrush, 1 Teal, 1 Redwing, 1 Kestrel and 1 Pied Wagtail.

On a pleasant winter morning we walked from Reculver to Coldharbour and then inland. Birds we saw included 359 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 1 Marsh Harrier, 7 Redshank, 24 Great Black-backed Gulls, 24 Ringed Plovers, 6 Turnstone, 17 Mute Swans, 20 Mallard, 3 Red-throated Divers, 21 Carrion Crows, 70 Cormorants, 1 Oystercatcher, 65 Linnets, 1 Short-eared Owl, 14 Reed Buntings, 10 Chaffinches, 2 Stonechats, 65 Golden Plover, 2 Green Sandpipers, 135 Gadwall, 1 Pochard, 5 Tufted Duck and 6 Coot.
Marc Heath also found 5 Tree Sparrows near Bishopstone Lane car park.

December 22nd
It was a foul day today with a gale force SW wind blowing in rain and drizzle. We didn't venture out until after lunch when we found 144 Gadwall, 1 Little Egret, 2 Little Grebes, 7 Tufted Duck, 2 Mallard, 3 Mute Swans, 2 Teal and 2 Mistle Thrushes. At least the weather is supposed to improve tomorrow.

After overnight rain, this morning dawned bright and breezy as we walked from Reculver to Coldharbour. Birds we saw included 35 Great Black-backed Gulls including a juvenile with a colour ring, 22 Mute Swans, 357 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 2 Little Grebes, 8 Redshank, 1 Kingfisher, 3 Ringed Plovers, 13 Grey Partridges, 1 Stonechat, 35 Linnets, 12 Meadow Pipits, 1 Red-throated Diver, 12 Sanderling, 41 Carrion Crows, 74 Oystercatchers and 1 Lapland Bunting flying E towards Coldharbour calling loudly.

We walked around Shuart this morning and saw 29 Cormorants, 2 Green Woodpeckers, 4 Mistle Thrushes, 34 Mute Swans, 1 ring-tailed Hen Harrier, 8 Long-tailed Tits, 15 Lapwings, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 1 Water Rail, 1 Red-legged Partridges, 111 Fieldfares, 22 Redwings, 17 Chaffinches, 1 Sparrowhawk, 21 Blackbirds, 1 Chiffchaff and 2 Goldcrest.
Later at Minnis Bay we saw 17 Great Black-backed Gulls, 3 Red-throated Divers and 8 Great Crested Grebes.
Matt also walked inland south of the railway and counted 3 Tree Sparrows, 42 Corn Buntings, 40 Chaffinches, 65 Fieldfares, 31 Redwings and 1 Common Buzzard.

This morning we walked inland at Reculver and recorded 1 Kestrel, 3 Mistle Thrushes, 3 Chiffchaffs, 5 Cormorants, 7 Lapwings, 2 Shoveler, 145 Gadwall, 5 Mallard, 1 Pochard, 3 Tufted Duck, 4 Coot, 2 Mute Swans, 220 Dark-bellied Brent Geese and 1 Grey Wagtail.

This morning we walked along the seawall from Reculver to Coldharbour and counted 548 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 29 Meadow Pipits, 48 Oystercatchers, 1 Peregrine, 1 Short-eared Owl, 28 Great Black-backed Gulls, 2 Pied Wagtails, 2 Kingfishers, 15 Mute Swans, 36 Redshank, 58 Cormorants, 4 Lapwings, 18 Ringed Plovers, 66 Golden Plovers, 5 Turnstone, 12 Goldfinches, 6 Chaffinches, 26 Linnets, 2 Stonechats, 31 Carrion Crows, 3 Grey Plovers, 13 Mallard, 5 Little Grebes and 1 Little Egret.

This morning I also received information about the French ringed Coal Tit we trapped at Shuart on October 7th. It had been ringed at Dunes du Fort Vert, Marck, Pas-de-Calais, FRANCE on October 1st and had flown 64 km NW.

On yet another very mild morning we walked inland at Reculver as far south as the Thanet Way. We saw 4 Mistle Thrushes, 2 Marsh Harriers, 1 Chiffchaff, 146 Gadwall, 1 Pochard, 2 Little Grebes, 2 Shoveler, 2 Mallard, 6 Tufted Duck, 6 Coot, 37 Cormorants, 2 Common Buzzards, 5 Mute Swans, 1 Snipe, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Stonechat, 52 Fieldfares, 7 Redwings, 70 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 4 Corn Buntings, 8 Goldfinches and 22 Chaffinches.
Driving over to Thanet this afternoon we had a Raven fly across the road pursued by the local Rooks.
