August 23rd
With a fresh easterly wind forecast Matt and I met at the Towers at 0700 for an hour long seawatch. We counted 1 juvenile Yellow-legged Gull E, 4 Sandwich Terns E, 11 Teal, 2 Fulmars, 13 Common Terns, 2 Black Terns, 2 Arctic Skuas E, 5 Dunlin, 2 Swifts E, 9 Common Scoter, 3 Gannets E and 2 Black Redstarts around the Towers.
At 0800 we walked along the seawall to Coldharbour and returned along the railway embankment and recorded 1 Cetti's Warbler, 1 Gannet, 35 Oystercatchers, 6 Sandwich Terns on beach with about 600 Black-headed Gulls, 12 Redshank, 9 Cormorants, 6 Common Sandpipers, 9 Little Egrets, 4 Green Sandpipers, 3 Greenshank, 13 Dunlin, 3 Wheatears, 76 Ringed Plovers, 21 Sanderling, 10 Turnstone, 5 Yellow Wagtails, 2 Pied Flycatchers, 16 Whitethroats, 1 Sedge Warbler, 1 Kestrel, 5 Lapwings and 1 Marsh Harrier.
Just after 0900 Micky Baldock had an Osprey fly W over Bishopstone and just outside the recording area David Barnes found a Wryneck near Highstead Stables.

This afternoon Matt walked at Shuart, Netherhale and Brooksend and saw 1 Common Redstart, 8 Whitethroats, 1 Wheatear, 2 Willow Warblers, 1 Grey Heron, 5 Tufted Duck, 1 Pochard, 14 Little Grebes and 30 Coot.
