Another soaking! There were thunderstorms rumbling about to the south and east of us and non stop rain as we walked from Reculver to Coldharbour and back along the railway embankment. Birds we saw included 2 Kestrels, 1 Black Redstart, 4 Goldfinches, 3 Mute Swans, 6 Redshank, 2 Pied Wagtails, 2 Common Sandpipers, 5 Grey Herons, 21 Linnets, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 4 Little Egrets, 1 Mallard, 12 Ringed Plovers, 8 Cormorants, 4 Reed Warblers, 15 Whitethroats, 3 Wheatears, 3 Shelduck, 4 Wood Sandpipers landing in Coldharbour at 0815, 2 Whinchats, 12 Grey Partridges, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Blackcap, 6 Long-tailed Tits, 1 Green Sandpiper, 100 Swallows, 10 House Martins, 15 Teal W, 9 Dunlin W, 11 Snipe W, 2 Willow Warblers and 2 Sedge Warblers.
This afternoon Derek Smith had a walk at Shuart where his highlight was a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker flying W. This follows one seen at Reculver a few days ago. Other birds he saw included 1 Common Redstart, 1 Willow Warbler, 3 Blackcaps, 1 Common Buzzard, 2 Kestrels, 3 Green Sandpipers and 1 Snipe W.
