November 6th

We spent the morning ringing at Shuart where the sun was shining but there was a chilly SE breeze blowing. We saw 3 Kestrels, 26 Redwings, 24 Fieldfares, 50 Lapwings, 1 Long-eared Owl, 2 Cetti's Warblers, 8 Mallard, 7 Mute Swans, 2 Siskins, 10 Blackbirds, 3 Green Woodpeckers, 3 Greylag Geese, 2 Grey Herons, 2 Bramblings, 1 Golden Plover, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 22 Skylarks, 2 Ring-necked Parakeets, 1 Stonechat, 3 Tufted Duck, 1 Merlin, 1 Yellowhammer, 8 SongThrushes, 12 Chaffinches and 1 Common Buzzard. 

Birds ringed 15: Reed Bunting 6, Cetti's Warbler 1, Blue Tit 1, Robin 1, Redwing 2, Song Thrush 1, Blackbird 3.

This afternoon Matt walked from Reculver to Coldharbour and saw 3 large auks flying E, 3 Great Crested Grebes, 150 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 98 Golden Plovers, 1 Snow Bunting, 4 Stonechats, 1 Rock Pipit, 2 Curlews, 1 female Tufted Duck on the sea, 1 Shelduck and 1 Little Egret. 

He then spent an hour at Minnis Bay and recorded 4 Wigeon flying W, 114 Kittiwakes flying E, 34 Gannets, 2 Sandwich Terns, 1 Red-throated Diver, 7 large auks E, 11 Common Scoter W, 2 Little Egrets, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 male Tufted Duck and 1 Great Skua W. The Sandwich Terns increase the latest date seen in the area by another day.
