November 15th

It was overcast, dull, damp and drizzly but calm this morning as we walked from Reculver to Coldharbour and back. We counted 17 Meadow Pipits, 1 Curlew, 32 Gannets, 42 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 1 Pied Wagtail, 11 Shelduck, 1 Guillemot, 3 Great Crested Grebes, 38 Ringed Plovers, 2 Little Egrets, 4 Common Scoter, 11 Turnstone, 154 Cormorants, 1 Corn Bunting, 2 Kestrels and a flock of 156 Lapwings flying W high over the sea. We also recorded 105 Mallard, 1 Water Rail calling, 1 Peregrine, 2 Little Grebes, 1 Redshank, 2 Tree Sparrows, 11 Linnets, 2 Sandwich Terns flying W close inshore and the latest ever record for Reculver, 10 Goldfinches and 1 Sparrowhawk.

Julie Childs had a very enjoyable four hours between Reculver and Coldharbour. She saw 7 Corn Buntings, 1 Merlin, 1 Bearded Tit and heard a Cettis Warbler with another also heard inland from Cold Harbour. Other highlights were about 30 Gannets fishing close to Coldharbour, several Redwings and 4 Stonechat.

Alex and Julian Perry were also out this afternoon and found 5 Bearded Tits.
