March 28th

For the last week or so the Environment Agency has been working on the beach between Reculver and Minnis Bay to repair winter storm damage. Apparently they intend to finish this work by the end of Wednesday. 


 This morning I walked from Chamber's Wall to Coldharbour and then back along the Green Wall. Birds I saw included 11 Chaffinches, 9 Goldfinches, 1 Kestrel, 37 Linnets, 17 Mallard, 2 Green Woodpeckers, 9 Cetti's Warblers, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Swallow at the Chamber's Wall crossing (132nd), 84 Corn Buntings, 4 Coot, 3 Redshank, 2 Little Egrets, 5 Great Crested Grebes, 7 Turnstone, 4 Oystercatchers, 3 Ringed Plovers, 1 Curlew, 1 Grey Plover, 2 Song Thrushes, 1 Golden Plover, 2 Mediterranean Gulls and 1 Redwing.

Also this morning, Matt walked from Reculver to Plumpudding and counted 1 Stonechat, 1 Merlin, 100 Sanderling, 6 Mediterranean Gulls, 5 Great Crested Grebes, 2 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 24 Redshank, 1 Rock Pipit, 6 Curlew, 5 Cetti's Warblers, 1 Tufted Duck, 2 Marsh Harriers, 40 Turnstone, 1 Sandwich Tern (133rd), 1 Gannet and 12 Shelduck.
