June 13th

Matt spent the morning ringing at Reculver where he saw 2 Garden Warblers, 1 singing Willow Warbler, 2 Chiffchaffs, 8 Blackcaps, 5 Whitethroats, 2 Green Woodpeckers, 9 Tufted Duck, 24 Mallard, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Swift, 8 Sand Martins, 2 Grey Partridges, 9 Cetti's Warblers, 1 Raven, 1 Shelduck, 2 Kestrels, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Cuckoo, 8 Long-tailed Tits, 8 Reed Warblers and 2 Oystercatchers.

Birds ringed 25: Wren 2, Chiffchaff 2, Robin 5, Cetti's Warbler 5, Blackcap 2, Blue Tit 2, Great Tit 1, Dunnock 1, Song Thrush 2, Blackbird 3.

This afternoon I had a check of the Reculver/Bishopstone Sand Martin colony and was sad to find that this is the worst year I can remember with only about 30 pairs present. There were none at either Reculver or Bishopstone ends and the only ones I could find were on the headland half way between the two.

Half of this year's Sand Martin holes
