August 15th

We spent a bright and increasingly breezy morning having what turned out to be a quiet ringing session at Reculver. Birds we saw included 2 Common Sandpipers, 38 Coot, 8 Tufted Duck, 8 Little Grebes, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 32 Mallard, 21 Sand Martins, 2 Kestrels, 2 Common Buzzards, 20 Goldfinches, 2 Chiffchaffs, 2 Willow Warblers, 2 Green Woodpeckers, 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 1 Green Sandpiper flying W, 1 Mediterreanean Gull, 10 Swallows, 1 Sparrowhawk and 1 Cetti's Warbler.

 Birds ringed 9: Willow Warbler 1, Chiffchaff 1, Reed Warbler 4, Cetti's Warbler 1, Dunnock 1, Song Thrush 1.

Derek Smith was also out this morning and between 0600 and 1000 walked from Shuart along the embankment to Chamber's Wall and back via Plumpudding. He counted 7 Little Egrets, 2 Marsh Harriers, 2 Sparrowhawks, 1 Kestrel, 1 juvenile Peregrine, 9 Whimbrel, 1 Curlew, 4 Avocets, 6 Redshank, 1 Green Sandpiper, 2 Yellow Wagtails, 8 Cetti's Warblers, 8 Blackcaps, 12 Reed Warblers, 2 Sedge Warblers, 1 Grasshopper Warbler south of the Shuart crossing (172nd), 17 Whitethroats, 1 Willow Warbler and 16 Chiffchaffs.
