September 6th

We spent an increasingly breezy and warm morning ringing at Shuart where we recorded 2 Ring-necked Parakeets, 2 Kestrel, 19 Swallows, 1 Golden Plover, 30 Blackcaps, 2 Whitethroats, 10 Chiffchaffs, 10 Willow Warblers, 12 Sedge Warblers, 10 Reed Warblers, 101 Greylag Geese, 2 Barnacle Geese, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Cetti's Warblers, 2 Firecrests, 1 Sparrowhawk, 8 Long-tailed Tits and 1 Pied Flycatcher. We also saw a Clouded Yellow butterfly.

Birds ringed 75: Chiffchaff 7, Willow Warbler 7, Long-tailed Tits 2, Sedge Warblers 11, Blackcaps 25, Whitethroats 2, Reed Warblers 8, Robins 3, Great Tits 2, Blue Tits 3, Cetti's Warbler 1, Linnet 1, Chaffinch 1, Pied Flycatcher 1, Blackbird 1. 

This morning Dave Smith walked from Shuart to Plumpudding and Coldharbour and recorded 42 Greylag Geese, 2 Mute Swans, 2 Red-legged Partridges, 2 Coot, 19 Golden Plover, 18 Ringed Plovers, 1 Common Sandpiper, 4 Turnstone, 1 Knot, 6 Mediterranean Gulls, 7 Sandwich Terns, 1 Little Grebe, 1 Little Egret, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Marsh Harrier, 3 Common Buzzards, 1 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 1 Green Woodpecker, 3 Kestrels, 4 Sedge Warblers, 7 Reed Warblers, 40 Swallows, 3 House Martins, 7 Willow warblers, 6 Chiffchaffs, 10 Blackcaps, 3 Lesser Whitethroats, 1 Firecrest, 1 Spotted Flycatcher, 5 Yellow wagtails, 1 Meadow Pipit, 12 Chaffinches and 6 Corn Buntings.

 September 5th

On a beautiful morning we walked along the seawall from Reculver and counted 17 Sandwich Terns, 3 Swallows W, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 5 Stonechats, 1 Goldfinch, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 7 Cormorants, 18 Linnets, 5 Little Egrets, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Kestrels, 24 Mallard, 1 Redshank, 64 Bar-tailed Godwits flying E in three groups, 7 Sanderling, 3 Oystercatchers, 3 Ravens, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 6 Corn Buntings and 1 Golden Plover. We also found 9 Wall Browns on the old Roman walls.

 September 4th

It was rainy this morning and we counted 10 Little Grebes, 9 Tufted Duck, 160 Coot, 65 Gadwall, 80 Mallard, 2 Wigeon, 3 Mute Swans, 1 Ruff, 1 Common Sandpiper, 8 Swallows W and 1 Swift W.

 September 3rd

At Reculver this morning we counted 4 Chiffchaffs, 4 Gadwall, 3 Cetti's Warblers, 1 Swallow, 130 Coot, 10 Tufted Duck, 10 Little Grebes, 5 Mute Swans, 1 Ruff, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Buzzards, 20 Mallard, 1 Willow Warbler, 2 Grey Partridges, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Mediterranean Gull and 4 Swallows.

 September 2nd

We spent another morning ringing at Shuart and saw 3 Chiffchaffs, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Common Buzzard, 2 Ring-necked Parakeets, 2 Ravens, 2 Grey Herons, 3 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 1 Green Woodpecker, 4 Cetti's Warblers, 24 Blackcaps, 30 Sedge Warblers, 25 Reed Warblers, 8 Whitethroats, 7 Willow Warblers, 70 Swallows, 10 House Martins, 2 Mediterranean Gulls and 1 Kestrel.

Birds ringed 90: Wren 1, Willow Warbler 6, Chiffchaff 1, Cetti's Warbler 3, Sedge Warbler 27, Reed Warbler 20, Blue Tit 4, Blackcap 21, Whitethroat 5, Robin 1, Blackbird 1.

 September 1st

We spent the morning ringing at Shuart where we saw 1 Grey Heron, 15 Whitethroats, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Chiffchaff, 5 Yellow Wagtails, 2 Grey Wagtails W, 1 Hobby, 4 Willow Warblers, 15 Sedge Warblers, 20 Reed Warblers, 35 Blackcaps, 2 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Grasshopper Warblers, 2 Sparrowhawks, 2 Ring-necked Parakeets, 3 Cetti's Warblers, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Firecrest, 4 Swallows, 1 Great White Egret W (175th) and 2 Common Buzzards.

Birds ringed 81: Wren 1, Willow Warbler 2, Lesser Whitethroat 2, Robin 4, Whitethroat 9, Blackcap 30, Reed Warbler 18, Sedge Warbler 12, Cetti's Warbler 1, Grasshopper Warbler 2.

Matt visited Reculver during the afternoon where he counted 6 Wigeon, 12 Tufted Duck, 39 Gadwall, 4 Little Grebes, 136 Coot, 62 Golden Plovers, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Ruff, 2 Teal, 80 Mallard and 1 Little Egret.

 August 31st

After overnight thunderstorms Anne and I walked at Reculver and recorded 2 Common Buzzards, 4 Cetti's Warblers, 135 Coot, 5 Mute Swans, 2 Shoveler, 2 Common Sandpipers, 67 Gadwall, 10 Little Grebes, 4 Tufted Duck, 10 Mallard, 2 Teal, 1 Chiffchaff, 4 Swallows W, 1 Arctic Skua, 50 Sandwich Terns and 12 Whimbrel.

On a warm afternoon Matt and Marion walked from Shuart to Chamber's Wall and on to Reculver. They counted 180 Sandwich Terns, 150 Common Terns, 27 Whimbrel, 100 Ringed Plovers, 15 Sanderling, 25 Turnstone, 3 Dunlin, 1 Arctic Skua, 18 Black Terns, 450 Black-headed Gulls, 4 Great Crested Grebes, 1 Little Tern, 1 Knot, 2 Little Egrets, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 1 Common Sandpiper and 1 Wheatear.

 August 30th

On a sunny morning we walked at Reculver where we counted 1 Common Buzzard, 3 Mute Swans, 138 Coot, 10 Tufted Duck, 30 Gadwall, 4 Little Grebes, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Chiffchaff, 100 Mallard, 2 Grey Herons, 1 Little Egret, 3 Cetti's Warblers, 4 Long-tailed Tits and 1 Kestrel.
