September 10th

We spent the morning ringing at a surprisingly chilly Reculver where there had been an overnight arrival of Blackcaps with at least 80 in our ringing site. Other birds seen included 2 Common Buzzards, 10 Chiffchaffs, 1 Raven, 1 Grey Heron, 6 Willow Warblers, 2 Cetti's Warblers, 1 Green Sandpiper, 2 Common Sandpipers, 1 Hobby, 32 Swallows moving W, 1 Garden Warbler, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Reed Warbler, 1 Sparrowhawk, 22 Teal, 1 Tree Pipit flying W, 2 Kingfishers, 1 Little Egret and 2 Kestrels.

Birds ringed 64: Willow Warbler 3, Wren 1, Chiffchaff 3, Blackcap 48, Robin 1, Reed Warbler 1, Garden Warbler 1, Whitethroat 1, Dunnock 2, Kingfisher 2, Song Thrush 1.

This morning Dave Smith cycled around the Reculver area as far as Chamber's Wall and saw 11 Wigeon, 2 Teal, 1 Turtle Dove, 50 Lapwings, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Hobby, 3 Chiffchaffs, 5 Blackcaps, 2 Whitethroats, 1 Spotted Flycatcher and 2 Wheatears.
