September 1st

After having a chat with Dave Smith and Matt who were seawatching at the Towers we drove over to Chamber's Wall and walked out to Coldharbour. Birds we saw included 3 Swallows, 6 Linnets, 4 Coot, 1 Turtle Dove beside the Wantsum, 1 Kestrel, 1 Reed Warbler, 11 Dunlin, 13 Redshank, 22 Mallard, 5 Wigeon, 4 Yellow Wagtails, 1 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 Greenshank, 2 Pied Wagtails, 1 Gannet E, 1 Common Sandpiper, 2 Oystercatchers, 5 Corn Buntings, 2 Cetti's Warblers, 2 Whitethroats and 3 Golden Plovers.

Dave Smith spent three hours from 0600 at the Towers and counted 3 Wigeon E, 4 Pintail, 52 Teal, 1 Eider, 33 Common Scoter, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Common Sandpiper, 78 Oystercatchers, 2 Arctic Skuas, 1 Kittiwake, 1 Yellow-legged Gull, 2 Black Terns (179th), 2 Common Terns, 125 Sandwich Terns, 2 Gannets, 8 Cormorants, 3 Little Egrets, 1 Kestrel and 2 Ravens.

After he had spent some time seawatching with Dave, Matt had a walk around the Reculver area and saw 3 Common Sandpipers, 3 Green Sandpipers, 32 Teal W, 3 Wheatears, 1 Lapwing, 2 Common Buzzards, 2 Cetti's Warblers, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Jay, 6 Wigeon W, 1 Raven, 1 Eider W, 118 Sandwich Terns E, 1 juvenile Yellow-legged Gull E, 1 Kittiwake, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 17 Common Scoter, 2 Common Terns, 1 Rock Pipit, 2 Little Egrets, 1 Gannet, 6 Swallows, 10 House Martins, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 1 Common Redstart, 3 Blackcaps and 2 Reed Warblers.

This afternoon 45 minutes at Reculver produced 34 Sandwich Terns flying E and not much else.
