February 10th
Matt had a call today from a local farmer, Tim Smith, to say he had seen a Common Crane (119th) on his land but that it had flown north. Matt and I went this afternoon to see if we could find it again. After an hour's searching we saw it flying from Minnis Bay south towards the Thanet Way. This is the sixth record of this species in the area and is the twelfth bird.
Common Crane - Tim Smith
Other birds we saw included 95 Fieldfares, 2 Common Buzzards, 2 Egyptian Geese, 10 Skylarks, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 1,000 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 1 Sparrowhawk, 4 Ring-necked Parakeets, 21 Lapwings and 1 Green Woodpecker.
