October 12th

Our ringing session on the Marsh south of the railway was curtailed when the rain arrived. We did however manage to see 20 Chiffchaffs, 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Blackcaps, 2 Redwing, 2 Yellowhammers, 1 Kingfisher, 1,000+ Black-headed Gulls on newly harrowed fields, 5 Song Thrushes, 1 Goldcrest, 5 Skylarks, 1 Brambling and 8 Swallows.

Birds ringed 40: Goldcrest 1, Chiffchaff 17, Blackcap 1, Chaffinch 2, Reed Bunting 2, Robin 2, Cetti's Warbler 1, Great Tit 1, Blue Tit 1, Stonechat 2, Dunnock 2, Redwing 2, Song Thrush 3, Blackbird 1, Kingfisher 1, Woodpigeon 1.

Derek Smith was also out this morning and walked from Shuart to Chamber's Wall and Coldharbour between 0700 and 1230. He counted 2 Grey Herons, 3 Little Egrets, 1 Great White Heron W at Chamber's Wall, 4 Kestrels, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Sparrowhawk, 70 Sanderling, 3 Dunlin, 16 Turnstone, 18 Ringed Plovers, 16 Song Thrushes, 4 Redwings, 600 Starlings W, 23 Skylarks, 44 Swallows,1 Kingfosher, 1 Grey Wagtail E, 4 Stonechats, 3 Bearded Tits, 3 Tree Sparrows W, 234 Chaffinches W, 6 Brambling, 6 Blackcaps, 48 Chiffchaffs, 18 Cetti's Warblers, 14 Long-tailed Tits and 32 Corn Buntings.
