October 13th

On a chilly morning we walked inland at Reculver and then had a look at the sea. We saw 9 Chiffchaffs, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Little Egrets, 61 Coot, 10 Little Grebes, 56 Gadwall, 22 Mallard, 14 Teal, 2 Redshank, 4 Cetti's Warblers, 1 Water Rail, 9 Goldfinches, 6 Shoveler, 1 Wigeon, 8 Tufted Duck and 1 Jay. After this half an hour at Reculver produced 12 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 2 Rock Pipits, 1 Gannet E, 5 Teal W and 1 Red-throated Diver E.

Derek was also out this morning and walked from Shuart to Chamber's Wall along the embankment and back via Plumpudding and Brooksend. He counted 1 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 7 Great Crested Grebes, 1 Little Grebe, 3 Common Buzzards, 64 Lapwings, 65 Sanderling, 2 Dunlin, 1 Water Rail, 1 Rock Pipit, 2 Ravens W, 1 Whinchat, 14 Goldfinches W, 22 Chaffinches W, 27 Siskin W, 1 Grey Wagtail E, 4 Blackcaps, 40 Chiffchaffs and 11 Goldcrests.
