October 17th

After heavy overnight thunderstorms we spent the morning ringing on the Marsh south of the railway. We saw 1 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Brambling, 1 Barn Owl, 21 Redwings, 41 Song Thrushes, 18 Greylag Geese, 1 Blackcap, 15 Blackbirds, 72 Chaffinches, 7 Tree Sparrows, 2 Golden Plover, 1 adult Mediterranean Gull, 1 Kestrel, 20 Robins, 52 Skylarks, 6 Lapwings flying W, 40 Corn Buntings, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Green Woodpecker, 70 Stock Doves, 1 Raven, 4 Siskins, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Yellowhammer, Wheatear and Firecrest.

Birds ringed 32: Wren 2, Chaffinch 4, Robin 5, Tree Sparrow 1, Reed Bunting 6, Yellowhammer 1, Song Thrush 5, Redwing 1, Blackbird 7.

Derek Smith, Kerry McDonnell and Patrick Giles were out all day and covered most of the recording area. They counted 7 Grey Herons, 2 Little Egrets, 22 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 4 Kestrels, 5 Common Buzzards, 7 Curlews, 70 Redshank, 65 Lapwings, 6 Sandwich Terns E, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Shoveler, 2 Ravens E, 10 Ring-necked Parakeets, 5 Green Woodpeckers, 1 Kingfisher, 56 Song Thrushes, 95 Blackbirds, 28 Redwings, 120 Starlings W, 26 Skylarks W, 9 Stonechats, 2 Rock Pipits, 6 Pied Wagtails, 1 Grey Wagtail, 6 Tree Sparrows, 116 Robins, 1 Brambling W, 66 Chaffinches W, 6 Siskin W, 33 Blue Tits, 37 Long-tailed Tits,, 24 Cetti's Warblers, 41 Chiffchaffs, 7 Blackcaps, 4 Firecrests, 28 Goldcrests and 34 Corn Buntings.
