October 18th

On a bright and sometimes misty morning we had a ringing session at Shuart. We saw 36 Greylag Geese, 3 Blackcaps, 19 Mallard, 5 Canada Geese, 6 Barnacle Geese, 3 Green Woodpeckers, 16 Skylarks, 2 Sparrowhawks, 5 Jays, 5 Ring-necked Parakeets, 6 Chiffchaffs, 5 Redwing, 25 Song Thrushes, 1 Water Rail, 1 Tree Sparrow, 1 Grey Heron, 4 Brambling, 3 Cetti's Warblers, 2 Stonechats, 17 Red-legged Partridges, 4 Common Buzzards, 70 Reed Buntings, 2 Goldcrests, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Siskin, 2 Kestrels and 10 Goldfinches.

Birds ringed 88: Chiffchaff 7, Goldcrest 2, Wren 2, Reed Bunting 57, Blackcap 3, Chaffinch 4, Robin 3, Cetti's Warbler 2, Stonechat 1, Dunnock 2, Song Thrush 5.

Shuart this morning

Dave Smith walked around Bishopstone and Reculver this morning and recorded 12 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 1 Shoveler, 2 Tufted Duck, 14 Lapwings, 2 Green Sandpipers, 24 Turnstone, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 1 Little Egret, 1 Marsh Harrier, 2 Common Buzzards, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Green Woodpeckers, 3 Jays, 13 Magpies, 1 Coal Tit at Bishopstone, 24 Skylarks, 1 or 2 Yellow-browed Warblers at Bishopstone, 10 Chiffchaffs, 14 Long-tailed Tits, 1 Blackcap, 2 Goldcrests, 2 Firecrests, 2 Redwings, 6 Blackbirds, 1 Whinchat, 1 Goldfinch and 2 Siskins.

Derek Smith, Kerry McDonnell and Patrick Giles were out again all day and covered most of the recording area including Bishopstone Glen. They recorded 65 Lapwings. 205 Sanderlings, 2 Marsh Harriers, 6 Common Buzzards, 3 Sparrowhawls, 4 Kestrels, 1 Hobby, 7 Little Grebes, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Sandwich Tern W, 1 Water Rail, 5 Jays W, 16 Magpies W, 1 Raven, 9 Bearded Tits, 2 Grey Wagtails W, 7 Pied Wagtails W, 1 Tree Sparrow, 21 Stonechats, 6 Brambling W, 300 Chaffinches, 2 Ring Ouzels, 40 Blackbirds, 55 Song Thrushes, 7 Siskins, 29 Cetti's Warblers, 39 Chiffchaffs, 1 Yellow-browed Warbler in the Glen, 4 Blackcaps, 8 Goldcrests and 2 Firecrests.
