September 20th
This morning I spent an hour at Reculver looking at the sea and saw 66 Dark-bellied Brent Geese W, the first of the autumn, 8 Wigeon W, 14 Little Egrets, 2 Curlew, 5 Sandwich Terns E, 2 Grey Wagtails and 1 Wheatear.
This morning Matt covered the western half of the Marsh and had a good range of species. He saw 24 Robins, 28 Chaffinches, 4 Goldcrests, 3 Blackcaps, 30 Chiffchaffs, 3 Kingfishers, 4 Kestrels, 1 Water Rail, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 1 Common Redstart, 3 Snipe, 31 Reed Buntings, 190 Meadow Pipits, 50 Mallard, 86 Wigeon W, 4 Sandwich Terns, 5 Reed Warblers, 4 Whitethroats, 3 Sedge Warblers, 22 Redshank, 3 Teal, 4 Tufted Duck, 1 summer plumaged Red-throated Diver E, 1 Oystercatcher, 26 Sanderling, 35 Ringed Plovers, 7 Dunlin, 3 Turnstone, 7 Stonechat, 3 Avocets W, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Grey Heron, 29 Little Egrets, 1 Ruff, 2 Common Sandpipers, 3 Shoveler W, 4 Grey Wagtails, 7 Pied Wagtails, 1 Hobby, 55 Goldfinches, 2 Siskin, 1 Willow Warbler, 2 Whinchats, 2 Firecrests, 1 Jay, 2 Sparrowhawks, 2 Yellow Wagtails, 3 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 4 Swallows, 1 Greenshank,1 Wheatear, 50 Linnets, 1 Little Grebe, 13 Lapwings, 1 Peregrine, 1 Golden Plover, 3 "continental" Song Thrushes and 2 Green Woodpeckers.
Whilst Matt covered the western half of the Marsh, Derek Smith covered the eastern half and recorded 9 Wigeon, 4 Common Buzzards, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Peregrine, 1 Snipe E, 12 Swallows E, 19 Jays E, 1 Tree Pipit E, 7 Grey Wagtails W, 1 Pied Flycatcher, 1 Whinchat, 1 Wheatear, 7 Blackcaps, 2 Whitethroats, 3 Lesser Whitethroats, 2 Reed Warblers, 1 Sedge Warbler, 44 Chiffchaffs, 2 Cetti's Warblers, 3 Goldcrests and the first Brambling (173rd) of the year.
