September 2nd

On an overcast and showery morning but with a lighter wind than the last week we walked from Reculver to Coldharbour and back. We counted 2 Sparrowhawks, 2 Little Egrets, 4 newly arrived Wheatears on the grass at the Towers, 15 Sandwich Terns flying E, 1 Kestrel, 1 Curlew, 140 Ringed Plovers, 2 Turnstone, 2 Sanderling, 49 Oystercatchers, 2 Common Sandpipers, 2 Redshank, 2 Common Scoter, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Dunlin and 1 Pied Wagtail.

First year Ringed Plovers

Wheatear

At about midday a Spotted Flycatcher spent a couple of minutes flycatching in our garden at Bishopstone.

This afternoon I received the ringing information of an adult male Reed Warbler we controlled at Shuart Farm on August 19th. It had initially been ringed as a first year bird at La Maziere, Villeton, Lot-et-Garonne, France on 3rd September 2019. Villeton is 783 km S of Shuart.
