August 29th

On a breezy but increasingly warm morning we had a ringing session at Reculver. Birds we saw included 1 Wheatear, 53 Coot, 48 Mallard, 11 Little Grebes, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 6 Common Sandpipers, 1 Snipe, 4 Redshank, 1 Golden Plover, 1 Ringed Plover, 2 Tufted Duck, 1 Barn Owl, 10 Blackcaps, 6 Chiffchaffs, 25 Corn Buntings, 3 Willow Warblers, 1 Kestrel, 3 Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 3 Little Egrets, 2 Jays, 2 Green Woodpeckers, 3 Gadwall, 1 Common Buzzard, 17 Goldfinches, 6 Swallows, 2 Whitethroats, 1 Sparrowhawk and 1 Mediterranean Gull.

Birds ringed 22: Chiffchaff 2, Willow Warbler 1, Blackcap 8, Reed Warbler 4, Great Tit 1, Robin 2, Blue Tit 2, Dunnock 1, Blackbird 1.

This morning Dave Smith walked from Shuart to Plumpudding and Coldharbour and saw 5 Teal, 2 Tufted Duck, 1 Avocet, 100 Ringed Plovers, 7 Whimbrel, 1 Snipe, 3 Common Sandpipers, 6 Redshank, 20 Turnstone, 7 Sandwich Terns, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 7 Little Egrets, 2 Marsh Harriers, 2 Sparrowhawks, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 20 Swallows, 6 Chiffchaffs, 3 Blackcaps, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 8 Whitethroat and 3 Wheatears.
