Derek Smith braved the pouring rain this morning and walked from Shuart to Coldharbour along the embankment and returned via Plumpudding and Brooksend. Birds he saw included 2 Little Grebes, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Little Egret, 14 Herons, 1 Gannet flying W, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Teal, 60 Turnstone, 54 Redshank, 19 Curlew, 12 Grey Plovers, 1 Purple Sandpiper, 90 Sanderling, 3 Common Buzzards, 1 Kestrel, 22 Golden Plover flying W, 65 Lapwings and 14 Stock Doves flying W. He also saw 1,140 Starlings flying W, 148 Swallows flying W, 7 House Martins flying W, 16 Song Thrushes, 3 Redwings, 5 Stonechats, 374 Chaffinches flying SW, 43 Goldfinches flying SW, 2 Brambling, 14 Long-tailed Tits, 16 Cetti's Warblers, 23 Chiffchaffs, 2 Blackcaps, 6 Goldcrests and 2 Firecrests.
