October 26th

We spent a dull and slightly damp morning ringing at Reculver. We saw 2 Lesser Redpolls, 1 Brambling, 3 Firecrests, 1 Barn Owl, 3 Cetti's Warblers, 1 Greenfinch, 3 Grey Herons, 5 Tree Sparrows, 1 Green Sandpiper, 56 Mallard, 44 Gadwall, 2 Teal, 3 Shoveler, 30 Coot, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Little Egret, 1,000 Starlings, 800 Black-headed Gull, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Bullfinch (194th), 1 Yellowhammer, 25 Chiffchaffs, 6 Goldcrest, 3 Redwings, 2 Kestrel, 1 Redshank, 4 Blackcaps, 33 Siskins, 3 Stonechats, 2 Water Rails, 1 Lapwing, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Grey Wagtail, 125 Chaffinch W, 1 adult Little Gull.

Birds ringed 59: Long-tailed Tit 6, Chiffchaff 17, Goldcrest 2, Wren 2, Firecrest 2, Blackcap 3, Robin 3, Blue Tit 2, Reed Bunting 7, Tree Sparrow 2, Stonechat 3, Chaffinch 4, Dunnock 1, Song Thrush 1, Blackbird 4.

Dave Smith was also out this morning and walked on the marshes at Reculver and recorded 27 Greylag Geese, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Marsh Harriers, 1 Common Buzzard, 1 Kingfisher, 2 Kestrels, 7 Chiffchaffs, 4 Goldcrests, 3 Firecrests, 2 Song Thrushes, 1 Wheatear, 1 Rock Pipit, 70 Chaffinches, 1 Lesser Redpoll, 60 Siskins, 35 Corn Buntings and 1 Yellowhammer.

Derek Smith walked from Minnis Bay to Reculver this morning and counted 26 Greylag Geese, 12 Little Egrets, 13 Grey Herons, 3 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 9 Great Crested Grebes, 45 Turnstone, 140 Oystercatchers E, 9 Golden Plovers, 7 Pied Wagtails W, 3 Rock Pipits, 1 Wheatear, 2 Bearded Tits, 1 Kingfisher, 8 Stonechats, 1 Lesser Redpoll W, 16 Cetti's Warblers, 2 Chiffchaffs and 9 Corn Buntings.
